Local SEO basics: how to show up on Google Maps

When you search for "bakery near me", the three businesses in the map box get the lion's share of clicks. Earning a spot there is the highest-leverage marketing most local businesses can do — and it is mostly free.

Start with your Google Business Profile. Fill in every field, add real photos, choose accurate categories, and keep your hours up to date. Consistency between your website, profile, and directories signals trust to Google.

Reviews are the other half. Ask happy customers to leave one, and reply to every review — good or bad. A steady trickle of recent, genuine reviews moves you up the rankings faster than almost anything else.

Finally, make sure your website mentions your city and neighbourhood naturally, has fast load times, and works on mobile. Do these basics well and you will outrank far bigger competitors locally.
